Regional Growth Strategy

We recently made updates on our Regional Growth Strategy page. An RGS provides long-range regional level sustainability planning direction for communities and must include targets, policies and actions for the reduction of GHG emissions to support achievement of region-wide climate action goals. 2013 Climate Action Awards

Two opportunities for Climate Action leaders to enter one or both competitions for a chance to win an award – see below for details.

Union of British Columbia Municipalities' Excellence Awards: Climate Action Category—Call for Applications

The Union of British Columbia Municipalities' Excellence Awards program acknowledges best practices, leadership, innovation and partnerships at the local government level in BC and provides an opportunity to showcase municipalities and regional districts who "lead the pack".

The 2013 Excellence Awards category for Climate Action recognizes communities who can demonstrate significant positive results in meeting their community’s Climate Action Charter goals. Applications are welcomed from local governments whose leadership and management of their Climate Action goals have resulted in innovative solutions and achievements that can be shared with and implemented by other communities. 

The 2013 application intake period will run from June 7th to July 26th. For further information please visit UBCM website.


Climate & Energy Action (CEA) Awards Submission Deadline

CEA is now accepting applications for the 2013 Climate & Energy Action Awards. Applications are due by 5:00 PM, Monday, July 22ndApply here

The Community Energy Association, the Province of BC Ministry, BC Hydro, FortisBC and the Union of BC Municipalities invite all local governments in British Columbia to participate in the 2013 Climate & Energy Action Awards competition.

These awards are offered annually to a municipality or regional district implementing a project or program best integrating energy / climate planning with community planning and development, corporate operations and collaboration with provincial public sector organizations. Infuse VANCOUVER 2013: PIBC/CIP National Conference

Canadian Institute of Planners and Planning Institute of BC are hosting the National Planning Conference in Vancouver, BC—INFUSE Vancouver 2013—from July 6-9, 2013. This year, the conference will offer a strong focus on professional development and gaining practical knowledge through hands-on training sessions, key-note speakers, curated panels and behind-the-scenes mobile workshops.

Offered workshops cover a wide range of topics to engage planning professionals ranging from community energy planning, policy development, and public engagement to energy efficiency.
