REALITY HAS BEEN OUTSOURCED
Hello,
We hope that you, your loved ones, friends and colleague are staying safe.
These times get no less weird, where our role for now is to act individually within a collective, where many Bristolians are being paid by the state to stay at home to save lives.
Our hopes for the future stay strong. Why so?
Well, partly because of the good that people do in this city. You’ll see some more examples below and please post your good news on social media, tagged #BristolTogether
In the worst of times, people show their best. We should be proud of this city.
But it’s also because the tectonic plates are shifting. Our values have been jolted; we’ll’ve been transported to a new starting point when we return. While it’s just not possible to create something we can’t imagine, when we’re prompted to start from a new place, we can readily imagine a new world.
Perspectives shift. We’re moving from I to we.
We believe – well, we want to believe – that many will be carrying the thoughtful good stuff from this lockdown across the border into the brave new world of the future. If Milan can now be turning 35km of roads from cars to cyclists and pedestrians; if jellyfish are swimming anew in Venetian waters; and if care-workers are venerated the world over like never before, then our world really can be changed.
There’s a wise old African proverb that points the way to a more thoughtful approach.
“If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
In our future? Let’s plan to go far, together.
#BristolTogether – always…
