Ophélie Coteaux d’Aix en Provence Rosé 2020

There comes a time in every summer when rosé is everywhere – the point of ‘peak-rosé’, if you will. We are nearing this point now. Days are hot and call more for refreshment than richness in the wines we are drinking and suddenly, rosé is everywhere. The light, fresh, fruity nature of rosé matches the mercury well, and its seemingly endless ability to pair with the lighter fare of summer menus gives it a place on every wine list. This week, we take a sip (or two) of Ophélie Rosé 2020 from Coteaux d’Aix en Provence.

Tasting Notes: This blend of 95% Syrah and 5% Grenache is classic Provence in its flavour profile and light pink hue. The tangy red berry profile also shows elements of citrus, orchard fruit and light spice, making this an exceptional food wine.

Enjoy With: Almost all brunch dishes: eggs benedict, bacon and eggs, or bagels and smoked salmon. Also great for appetizers and light fare, seafood, grilled fish and chicken, and Havarti or Provolone cheese.

Style: An extra-dry, fruity, rosé wine.

Terroir/Region: The region of Coteaux d’Aix en Provence is soaked in the tradition of making rosé wine. Of the 28 million bottles produced here annually, 82.5% are rosé! Rosé is all about the balance between bright acidity and the fruit profile of the wine, with each producer fine tuning its blend to master-walk this razor’s edge.

Producer: Cellier d’Eguilles was founded in 1923 as a co-operative of 90 growers from the surrounding region. Members strove for advances in their vineyards and shared their practices over the years. They are now making a collective effort to improve environmental practices, pushing for certification which will make their wines better for us and the planet.

Availability: Ophélie Rosé 2020 will be available on Saturday in the Vintages section of your local LCBO and is available for online ordering, but some stores may already have it on the shelf. Grab your bottle today!
