Learn how to start your own support group with this how-to guideIn many parts of the country, there are few lung cancer support groups available to assist patients in navigating the significant life changes that come with living with the disease. Those that do exist often focus only on people undergoing treatment, or those in hospice. However, it is possible to create a support group in your community that meets your needs. Michelle Hills, a lung cancer survivor, and Sarah Bechard, a social work case manager at the University of Kansas Cancer Center, started their own support group in Overland Park, Kansas. Check out their how-to guide to find out how to start your own support group. Lung cancer researchers and doctors gather for annual Science MeetingAt our annual Science Meeting this month in Bethesda, MD, esteemed members of our Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) and our researcher awardees gathered to discuss research progress, scientific advancements, and the state of lung cancer. The two-day meeting kicked off with a morning of pipeline presentations by some of our industry partners to receive feedback on their work from our SAB. The rest of the meeting featured presentations by our Career Development Awardees (CDAs), including our newest class of CDAs, our ALK Positive Awardees, and our Translational Research Awardees on their research progress. LUNGevity is proud to host meetings such as these to provide a platform to share information in an open way to move science forward faster to patients.
