COMING HOME: NELSON Sir William Beechey’s portrait of Nelson is on special display at Norwich Castle as part of the National Portrait Gallery’s COMING HOME project. The National Portrait Gallery is loaning fifty portraits of iconic individuals to places across the UK with which they are most closely associated. Painted in 1800, this portrait of Norfolk’s great hero was commissioned by the City of Norwich. It shows Nelson with an air of quiet self-confidence and is thought to be the most accurate likeness of him. The admiral was killed by a sniper at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 whilst destroying the French and Spanish fleets. Included with museum admission.
