Alumni spotlight: Stephanie Rasmusen '07

Stephanie Rasmusen '07

EIU's women's rugby team has been blazing new trails in the emerging sport since 1999, and every player who has been involved with the team has been a pioneer.

One of the most notable seasons came in 2002, when EIU's squad became the first NCAA women's rugby team, compiled an 11-0 record with wins over major schools, and dominated their opponents with a 683-12 scoring total.

This past weekend, 2002 team veteran Stephanie Rasmusen '07 was among the former players who headed back to campus to watch another big moment in EIU rugby history — the first-ever contest between two NCAA Division I teams. Rasmusen, now a high school physical education teacher, got to witness a 24-0 win over Quinnipiac.

In this story, Rasmusen reminisces about her time on the groundbreaking EIU women's rugby team.
