MYAN WA 2015 - It's a wrap!

This will be the last MYAN WA newsletter for 2015 and I hope you can agree that it's been a fabulous year for MYAN WA.

The network has grown, with now over 320 members on the e-list and many more connecting through events and projects. We have held four fantastically well attended network meetings this year and I trust you've all made new and stronger connections that have helped in your work with refugee and migrant young people.

In 2015 MYAN WA grew from a team of one to two which has been very exciting for us and that will continue into the new-year.

Young people's voices are central to the work of MYAN WA and 2015 has been a great year for that. We were privileged to support 12 young people who were the consultation leaders in the recent CCYP consultation project with CALD young people. Also, we are continuing to work closely with the Catalyst Youth Summit organisers, many of whom are pictured above. They will be busy over the next few weeks, planning and delivering WAs first youth led summit for multicultural young people.

We will soon be setting the dates for MYAN WA meetings next year. In addition we will send out a short survey to find out what you loved this year and want to see more of and what changes you'd like to see us make.

MYAN WA's strength lies within its members, so please continue to stay connected, active and spread the word about the network to those who think would benefit.

Have a fabulous and safe festive season....we will see you all in the new year!

CCYP CALD consultation snapshot

Following the recent CALD consultation project, CCYP has been developing publications that promote the voices and views of children and young people.

The first of these has been released – Snapshot is a brief one-page overview of the consultation, including a description of who took part and the major themes raised. It was developed specially to report back to the children and young people that took part, and also provides a good overview for anyone interested in the consultation.

Early in 2016 the new Commissioner for Children and Young People Colin Pettit will write to everyone who supported the consultation to provide copies of all publications developed as a result of this consultation. One of these will be titled ‘This Is Me’, which will tell the stories of children and young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds now living in WA.

Speak Out for Change Multicultural Launch

The South East Corridor Youth Partnership Project’s Speak Out for Change: Youth Voices on Youth Issues Summit was a one day Youth2Youth consultation held in April 2015 where the Youth Leadership Roundtable (YLR) – a group of inspiring young leaders from throughout the Perth community – facilitated workshops to engage their peers in discussions and debates around pertinent youth issues that young people currently face in their communities.

Our Official Launch of the Summit Report would not be complete without the presence of these young participants and their families. The Youth Leadership Roundtable would like to invite you to this Multicultural community launch on Saturday 19th of December from 12:30PM-3:30PM at the Lyal Richardson Hall in Gosnells, with lunch provided or feel free to bring a multicultural dish to share.

Please RSVP by the 17th of December, by contacting Anania Tagaro, Senior Project Officer, Save the Children Australia on 08 9267 3908 or at anania.tagaro@savethechildren.org.au

DAYS accessbility

Mission Australia's Drug and Alcohol Youth Service (DAYS) are interested in finding out how they can be more accessible for young people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. They would appreciate your response to the following two questions:

1. Is information about DAYS accessible to the CALD community?

2.What suggestions can you give to help us become more accessible?

Please contact Shingy, DAYS Outreach Worker on 0420704730 or DumbaS@missionaustralia.com.au to respond.
