This month’s featured highlight is the new website on Age-friendly Cities and Communities in the Americas. We also introduce our updated logo and bring news on upcoming materials. Check out upcoming events as well below.

 

Highlight:

Age-friendly cities and communities in the Americas

The Region of the Americas is the Region with the largest amount of participating countries involved in the WHO Global Network of Cities and Communities.

As of March 14th, there are a total of 791 age-friendly cities and communities in the Region of the Americas.

Our newest members include La Habana Vieja, Cuba and Campeche, Mexico. Welcome!

Highlight:

The Decade of Healthy Aging in the Americas

Our new logo encapsulates the global branding of the UN Decade initiative and is meant for the regional implementation of the Decade in the Region of the Americas. The new logo is now available in English, Spanish, Portuguese and in French.

An updated branding package with the new logo is being finalized and will be shared shortly.

Decade of Healthy Ageing Connection Series No. 3 The Decade in a Climate-changing World

The UN Decade of Healthy Ageing Connection Series explores the relationships between the Decade of Healthy Aging and key global issues. This third advocacy brief highlights how the health and well being of older people are affected by climate change and how climate change is relevant across all four action areas of the Decade plan.

 

Ageism in artificial intelligence for health

The WHO policy brief Ageism in artificial intelligence for health examines the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in medicine and public health for older people, including the conditions in which AI can exacerbate or introduce new forms of ageism. 

 

 

Legislation on Healthy Aging

Argentina's Ministry of Health has created LegiSalud, a new website that presents all current legislation related to healthy aging in Argentina.

Upcoming events:

Launch: WHO framework for countries to achieve an integrated continuum of long-term care

To support countries to develop or strengthen their long-term-care systems and services, WHO has released a new Framework for countries to achieve an integrated continuum of long-term care. See more details about the Framework and the event here.

Premiere screening of videos on the voices of older people for the Decade of Healthy Aging - feat. voices from Canada

  • Tuesday - 29 March 2022
  • 9:00 am - 10:45 am (EST)

Join the live premiere screening event to watch three films and to hear reflections from older people and local partners involved in the process. The project’s first stage resulted in three community-made films from Canada, Jordan and Togo, capturing lessons learned from the process. There will be live interpretation in Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish.
