Wine of the Weekend

First Press Chardonnay 2015, Napa Valley, California

This weekend why not treat yourself and your friends to this sensational Napa Valley Chardonnay? Do a little comestible shopping at an upscale grocery store or market, invite your fellow wine-lovers over, and relax. This elegant, finely tuned Chardonnay is perfect for sharing and will make new friends in an instant. Who knows? Maybe you’ll start a #Summerof17 weekend tradition.

Tasting Notes: Inviting aromas of apple, lemon drop, peach and vanilla are bright and lifted on the nose. This elegantly structured Chardonnay is moderately full-bodied with excellent flavour intensity. On the palate, you’ll find pleasing flavours of apple, peach and honey perfectly balanced with a crisp citrus-like acidity. The finish is long and smooth with hints of vanilla and caramel.

Enjoy With: Grilled salmon, pork or poultry. Also try with smoked fish, cheese and charcuterie.

Style: Full-bodied, rich white wine.

Terroir/Region: The southern reaches of the Napa Valley feels the influence of San Francisco Bay’s cool temperatures and is perfect for growing rich and intensely flavour Chardonnay grapes. Wines here are made in the ‘Burgundian’ style where a mix of hands-on techniques, like stirring of lees along with barrel aging, combine to add depth and complexity to the finished wine.

Producer: First Press is crafted by Delicato Family Vineyards whose focus on family and farming is well-known in the industry. Second and third generations of the family are involved in all aspects of the business. Delicato balances its traditional winemaking techniques and know-how with modern, state-of-the-art technology which allows it to consistently produce top quality wines.

Availability: First Press Napa Valley Chardonnay will be available through Vintages officially on Saturday, but check stores now as some locations will release the wine early.
