Dear , I hope this email finds you well. I must say, I am thoroughly enjoying my new role. Over the last few months, I have been inputting the results of the questionnaire that I sent out to all previously registered Interim Executives (thank you if you’ve completed it). I have also met 90+ Interims since taking on this new
role and in Sydney, this year alone, as a team, we have met or reconnected with almost 400 Interim Executives. I’ve had many interesting conversations and it’s great finding out what makes our Interim Executives tick and what super powers they can bring to an organisation. The Interim Executive/Portfolio Profession is growing and is, therefore, becoming a lot more competitive. It is so important to differentiate yourself from everyone else, which is why we’ve recently started to ask about your ‘super powers’.
PLACEMENTS
Here is a snapshot of the placements completed this year and the associated industries:
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
Our Interim Partners continue to promote and educate clients on the benefits associated with engaging an Interim Executive. In addition to the industries we have worked with this year, Caroline & Lisa have been actively targeting these industries:
ANNUAL SURVEY
The last few months have also been spent preparing our Interim Executive Annual Survey. The report tracks the trends and challenges of the growing Interim Marketplace.
The Survey Highlights include our Key Findings of 2019, most notably the five emerging disruptors driving demand functions: This year the survey provided evidence that while change and transformation were the key imperatives for engaging an interim, the cause of the disruption has shifted:
Enhanced competition/new entrants driving business turnaround and restructuring with Chief Financial Officers, Chief Executive Officers and Chief Operating Officers being highly sought after to parachute in and fix this.
Digital disruption causing a knock-on in the rise of Chief Technology and Information specialists and digital transformation experience.
The power of social conscience disrupting business has seen a calling for Chief
Customer/Experience Officers and Marketing and Crisis Communication specialists.
Emergence of Data and Analytics to obtain a competitive advantage correlating in the advent of the Chief Data Officer.
Enhanced regulatory scrutiny in key markets, i.e. Financial Services, Aged Care, Energy Sector heightening the need for Risk, Legal & Governance Executives. Hiring an interim is increasingly being viewed by businesses as a legitimate and mainstream operational strategy. The profile of Interim Executives is shifting; we are seeing a professionalisation of ‘portfolio working’ as a legitimate career choice, with almost one in two survey respondents choosing this as their ‘plan A’ career choice.
PAYROLLING SERVICE
Did you know, Watermark Search can also provide a payroll service. If you are offered an assignment through your own sources but you don’t already have an ABN and insurances, you can contract to your client through Watermark Search. This removes all the stress out of the engagement, especially for you as an Interim. There is a fee associated with this, which we would pass onto the client. Please contact me for more information if this is something you might be interested in.
