November 2018 updateWellington Market Insights Programme wraps upLast month our Market Insights Programme wrapped up with a great final session at Export NZ. A huge thank you to our students, host businesses, workshop hosts and speakers for contributing to a very successful programme this year. We are also very pleased to announce that Naomi Pepah from Massey University was presented with the Best Project Award for her outstanding market research project hosted by Onions New Zealand Inc. Market Readiness Programme hits Bay of Plenty, Hamilton and AucklandOur Market Readiness Programme (MRP) continues to roll out around the country with some great feedback from participating businesses at our recent sessions in Bay of Plenty, Hamilton and Auckland. Participants said they enjoyed the informative content and presenters and the interactive format worked very well. The MRP is aimed at exporters engaged, or looking to engage, in Southeast Asian markets. Read more below for details on our final session for the year in Christchurch on 6 December. We look forward to working with Export NZ again next year to roll these sessions out to more regions. Tertiary Market Immersion Programme - application deadline extendedWe’ve extended the deadline for our Tertiary Market Immersion Programme – tertiary students now have until Monday 12 November to apply. The programme is aimed at business-savvy tertiary students and is open to students from across the country. Students will work in teams to develop a business concept and learn all about how business is done in Vietnam, Thailand and Singapore from 8-26 January 2019. Taking up a business challenge in SingaporeWe are close to selecting the next group of high school students to visit Singapore for a week in January 2019 as part of our Business Challenge Programme. The programme is all about giving young entrepreneurs an opportunity to extend their global business knowledge and their understanding of the Singapore business and trade environment. Māori tech entrepreneurs to explore opportunities in VietnamWe’ve joined forces with the Asia New Zealand Foundation to run Accelerate Southeast Asia – a programme designed to ensure that emerging Kiwi entrepreneurs have an opportunity to visit and engage with Southeast Asia. In the first initiative of the programme, we're working with Kōkiri, a business accelerator for Māori entrepreneurs, to send five Māori entrepreneurs to Vietnam in November and December 2018. They will build networks in Vietnam’s entrepreneurship ecosystem and gain an understanding of the business culture and environment. The group will also attend a Techfest conference, expected to have 5,000 attendees. Click on the link below to read about the participating entrepreneurs. Indonesian experience for school teachersWe’ve partnered with the Asia New Zealand Foundation to provide New Zealand primary and secondary school teachers the opportunity to visit Indonesia to establish connections as part of our Global Schools Partnership Project. The purpose of the project is to increase students’ interest and study of Southeast Asia by establishing sustainable partnerships between schools in New Zealand and schools in South East Asia. Applications for the Indonesia 2019 project close on 26 November, for more details on how to apply, please click the link below. *Photo source: Asia New Zealand Foundation Indonesia Cultural Connections trip for teachers 2017 First ASEAN@50 fellows visit soonTo celebrate the 50th anniversary of ASEAN, we’ve partnered with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade to bring out leaders from ASEAN universities, research institutes and businesses. The first three fellows arrive in late November and will be briefing academics, students, government officials and targeted industry representatives. We will also host a series of public seminars in Dunedin - 29 November, Wellington - 5 December and Auckland - 6 December. Click on the link below for more details of these events. |
