Water IQ is introducing new neighbors to the Cedar Park community. Some of them are odd.
The City of Cedar Park is launching a new water conservation campaign to encourage residents to follow the watering schedule, which is based on whether your home address is an odd or even number. The Odd or Even? campaign features some typical and not-so-typical Cedar Park residents to serve as reminders to water on the correct days. Keep an eye out for these characters around town.

So, are you Odd or Even?

Check your mailbox later this month for a postcard featuring Odd or Even? characters and a complimentary magnet with your Cedar Park watering schedule. The magnet will help you keep your lawn healthy without over-watering during the dry summer months.

Water IQ Week
|
|
The City of Cedar Park held Water IQ Week May 9-13 when water conservation extraordinaire, Mr. Saver, visited all nine of Cedar Park’s elementary schools and presented to more than 1,800 energetic students.
Mr. Saver empowered Cedar Park students to save water by teaching simple ways to conserve water around their home and school. If you know any Cedar Park elementary students, ask them to teach you their new song, “We Will Save It!”

Westside Elementary students watch as Mr. Saver explains where their water comes from — Lake Travis.

Warm-Weather Watering Tips
|
|
Despite recent rainfall, Cedar Park is in a drought. February through April in Central Texas has been uncommonly dry this year, receiving the lowest rainfall on record. It’s important to prepare for these conditions to continue. According to the Austin American-Statesman, our chance of receiving even one inch of rain between now and June 2 is less than 10 percent. Follow these warm-weather tips to protect your lawn this summer without wasting water.
- Always follow your Cedar Park watering schedule. This goes for businesses, too. Watering deeply and infrequently strengthens and lengthens roots, helping your grass withstand summer heat and keeping your lawn beautiful — even in a drought.
- Don’t water during the heat of the day. For best results, water before 10 a.m. and after 7 p.m. This will prevent evaporation and ensure your grass can absorb the maximum amount of water from your sprinkler system.
- Check for broken or misdirected sprinkler heads. Watch for pooling at the base of your sprinkler heads and repair them to prevent waste. Also keep an eye on where you’re watering — if your sprinklers are hitting the street or sidewalk, adjust them accordingly.
