CGS STUDENT GOVERNMENT SPOTLIGHT

Janet Asbury

The CGS Student Government is inviting you to share your unique story with other CGS students. Information can include what motivates you, the challenges you have overcome, or where you want your CGS education to take you. Students who submit their stories will be entered to win prizes. For more information, e-mail CGSSG@pitt.edu. Read on to find out how Janet Asbury overcame her challenges!

What are the biggest challenges you faced in returning to school?

"The biggest challenge I faced in returning to school was overcoming all the negative thoughts I had in my head: 'Where am I going to get the extra money? I’ve got enough on my plate without adding the stress of studying.'"

How does CGS help you meet those challenges?

"Once I decided to enroll in CGS, I realized that all those things that kept me from starting were just negative thoughts, and I dealt with each problem as it came along instead of letting the thought of it keep me from moving forward. I did have to adjust some of my other activities to make time for school, but I decided it would be worth it. The support system within CGS of academic advisors, tutors, and of course great advice from other students helps to keep me motivated."
