It’s 40 years to the day that Richard started his working life in the kitchens at the Imperial Hotel in Great Yarmouth, and to celebrate he’ll be offering his career on a plate: literally. At an evening filled with memories and anecdotes, a cookery demonstration while you eat and a question and answer session hosted by Stacia Briggs, the Eastern Daily Press’s chief writer (who happens to be Richard’s wife!) this promises to be a very special evening for Richard and his guests. The evening starts promptly at 7pm, £40 per person. To book, either call 01603 626402, or visit our website www.richardhughescookeryschool.co.uk KATE BARMBY BAKES We are delighted to announce a new collection of cookery classes here at the Richard Hughes Cookery School led by guest tutor Kate Barmby from The Great British Bake Off 2016. Kate Barmby self taught baker, mum, nurse, farmer’s daughter and community volunteer brought a distinctly local flavour to the last series of the Great British Bake Off. Watched by millions, her passion for locally produced seasonal food was evident as she championed the fantastic produce Norfolk has to offer including local meat, oils, flour and fruit by taking them with her and including them in her recipes. Kate is a classic farmhouse style home cook as her parents are farmers and it’s still very much a lifestyle she embraces. She produces a lot of good everyday baking to feed her family, however her real skill lies in her “Creative Baking” demonstrated by her beautiful sugarcraft, pastry art and bread sculptures. Although being a contestant on The Great British Bake Off has proved to be a life altering experience for Kate, for her it was not about chasing fame or fortune. It was about having the opportunity to do something she loved. Following her appearance on the show she has been able to continue doing what she enjoys by becoming a guest teacher at Richard Hughes Cookery School, offering bespoke baking parties for children in their own homes, giving demonstrations and talks, writing a monthly column for Let’s Talk magazine and providing recipes to be featured in the EDP, often appearing as a guest on BBC Radio Norfolk and contributing to The Norfolk Cookbook produced with Norfolk Food and Drink. Kate has also put her baking skills and media presence to good use to help lots of worthy causes within the county. ADULT CLASSES
