Update from Upal Basu Roy, PhD, MPH, Vice President of ResearchThank you for helping us serve you better On behalf of LUNGevity, I hope you are staying healthy and safe. We understand that this is a stressful time for the lung cancer community as shelter-in-place restrictions are lifted across the country. Many of you have shared questions and concerns about life, and specifically your healthcare, post COVID-19 lockdown. LUNGevity is hard at work at developing new resources, including new expert interviews, to address these questions and concerns. We want to hear from you on what topics you would like to see us cover. Please answer this short, anonymous survey (10-15 minutes) to share your perspective on what different types of support we can offer you to navigate the post-shelter-in-place environment. There are no right or wrong answers. Thank you for helping us serve you better! Earlier this week, I was honored to participate, along with oncologists Stephen Liu, MD, of George Washington University and Charu Aggarwal, MD, of University of Pennsylvania, in a webinar hosted by CURE Magazine that focused on issues for people living with lung cancer today. Topics covered include COVID-19 symptom overlap and minimizing risk, the use of telemedicine, and mental health and wellness. The discussion included practical advice for lung cancer patients on their healthcare in a post-shelter-in-place environment. I encourage you to watch the video. I was also privileged to participate in a panel on GRYT Health’s COVID Advocacy Exchange on Safely Returning to Clinical Trials. At LUNGevity, we believe that clinical trials are a source of livesaving therapies for our patients and should be a part of the treatment paradigm. This discussion focused on how clinical trials can resume in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. You will be able to access the recording of the webinar on GRYT Health’s advocacy exchange website or their YouTube channel when it becomes available. Finally, in our latest COVID-19 joint update, we cover COVID-19 and cancer data from the annual ASCO 2020 meeting this past weekend. You can read the update here. Check back Monday for next week’s update. Our goal is to support you to the fullest extent possible to ensure that our community stays safe and healthy as we navigate this new stage of the public health crisis. Be sure to continue to check the COVID-19 and Lung Cancer section of our website frequently for the latest information. Thank you for your continued support. Best, Upal |
