Horizon de Bichot Pinot Noir 2018

When you think of ‘Old World’ wines from Europe, you don’t really think of exploration these days, but even the well-established wine houses and families have an adventurous spirit hidden under centuries of tradition. The team at Albert Bichot had mastered their grapes and their region, making some of the best Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines in Burgundy, so what comes next? The spirit of exploration took them south and west to the shores of the Mediterranean and the region of Limoux, a Shangri-La for their two favourite grapes, to create Horizon de Bichot Pinot Noir.

Tasting Notes: The 2018 Horizon de Bichot Pinot Noir is 100% Pinot Noir, and opens with juicy raspberry, blackberry and tart cherry notes with vanilla, oak spice and earth carrying through the lengthy finish. The tannins are light, and a lively acidity makes this a great food wine.

Enjoy With: Duck, chicken or turkey dishes, as well as richer fish like salmon or trout, mushroom risotto, or semi-hard cheeses.

Style: A light, lively red wine.

Terroir / Region: The team at Albert Bichot left its Burgundy home and travelled to Limoux. Here the cool breezes, elevated vineyards and varying soils create a place where Pinot Noir can ripen slowly and benefit from the Mediterranean sun while the region’s winds keep the grapes cool. Four distinct vineyard areas each add depth, complexity, fruit and freshness to this wine.

Producer: The spirit of adventure and exploration has always been part of Maison Albert Bichot. Albert Bichot began travelling the world in 1831, sharing his wines and passions with wine lovers everywhere and building what is now Maison Albert Bichot.
