Sundaes All Around

More choices for both high-end and kid-friendly ice cream bliss:

Sauces:

Toppings

For the Connoisseur: Try Fran’s Sauces in rich and delicious flavors like Pure Raspberry, Classic Caramel and Dark Chocolate. They’re also great drizzled over fresh fruit or mixed with seltzer for a yummy flavored soda.

Just for Kids: It’s hard to beat Magic Shell for sheer novelty value. This hardening chocolate is a magic trick and a taste treat, all in one. Try Hershey’s Chocolate, Reese’s Chocolate and Peanut Butter, or Smucker’s Caramel flavors.

Sprinkles:

Sprinkles

For the Connoisseur: Who says grown-ups can’t have a few sprinkles on their sundaes? India Tree Sparkling Sugar and Decoratifs elevate ice cream to an art form. Look for them near the cake frostings and mixes in our stores.

Just for Kids: Cake Mate Decorators are undisputed classics, available in rainbow, chocolate and nonpareils.

And for everyone:

Waffle Bowls

A waffle cone or bowl from Keebler elevates a good sundae to greatness, every time.

Soothe, Relax, Rejuvenate

Eye Mask

Here’s a great way to cool off when the temperature soars: try a cooling and refreshing eye or facial mask from Bass. This beauty mask can be used warm or cold — we suggest throwing it in the freezer for about 20 minutes for a super-soothing cool-down.

Soy Icecream

Lactose intolerance doesn’t have to doom you to a summer devoid of creamy, icy goodness. Lactose-free “ice creams” are tasting more and more like the real thing all the time, particularly the flavors concocted by the folks over at Soy Dream. Non-dairy and all-natural, Soy Dream comes in luscious flavors like French Vanilla and Mocha Fudge. For a more adorable alternative, try Tofutti Cuties — perfectly portioned and dairy- and lactose-free.

Chill Out, Lactose-Free

What hot summer day is complete without a frozen treat? With all your outside physical activity and working up a sweat, why not indulge in an ice cream cone or cup of frozen yogurt? But for the lactose intolerant among us, ice cream can be a real scream. Ice cream has a fair amount of the milk sugar lactose, which for some people causes discomfort (gas, bloating) in the lower intestinal tract. People who are lactose intolerant are unable to digest milk sugar, which leads to symptoms from the bacterial fermentation of lactose in the large intestine.

Good news: If you’re lactose intolerant, there is no need to miss out. Check the ice-cream case for lactose-free frozen treats made with tofu, nut milks and other dairy-free (lactose-free) bases. These ice cream-like goodies are quite tasty and come with similar “add ins” such as nuts and fruit, just like the real thing. Many of these lactose-free treats also supply calcium and a bit of protein like regular ice cream. But, as always, check the label for calories and fat counts for each ½ cups serving.
