Memoir Writing

The course will cover three memoirs, including I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou, Blue Nights by Joan Didion, and The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls.  Topics will include the blurring of boundaries between fiction and memoir, the role that gender plays in the writing, and ethical issues involved in writing about personal matters.  We will also discuss writing your own memoir.

"Younger Next Year" - Recommended Reading

Chris Crowley and Henry Lodge, M.D. have written...“An extraordinary book . . . it is easy to read, the science is right, and if one follows Lodge’s and Crowley’s recommendations, both mental and physical aging can be delayed. I wish my patients would follow their advice.”  — K. Craig Kent, M.D., New York–Presbyterian Hospital (The New York Times)
