Halloween is around the corner and as you decorate your home, office and yourself with ghouls and ghosts, pumpkins and poltergeists, you should also decorate your wine cabinet! The LCBO is putting Chronic Cellars’ Purple Paradise 2017 on the shelf for the lead up to Halloween, and one look at this bottle might put a spell on you!
Tasting Notes: Purple Paradise is a blend of Zinfandel and Petite Sirah, with splashes of Syrah and Grenache. It has a rich, ripe and smooth delivery of red and black berry fruit, leather and warm spices, with a balanced acidity. The tannins glide across the palate and give a soft grip, adding structure through the finish, while flavours of chocolate and vanilla linger.
Enjoy With: Pulled pork sliders, crispy chicken, sticky ribs, or smoked brisket. Purple Paradise is a great match for a quick pizza dinner before trick-or-treating, and pairs well with the dark chocolate you sneak out of the kids’ stash after they’re asleep!
Style: A full-bodied, smooth red wine.
Terroir/Region: The rolling hills of Paso Robles, California are known as the home of juicy, fruit-forward wines and Purple Paradise is a perfect example. The team at Chronic Cellars also tips their cap to France’s Côtes-du-Rhône wines blending in Syrah and Grenache, which have found a new home in southern California, to create a spicy, fruity and well-structured wine.
Producer: The Beckett brothers grew up working in their parents’ vineyards and winery, and after a little wandering, they came home to do what they do best – make wine using the best (‘Chronic’) grapes they could find. An old friend of the brothers stepped in to create their labels and Chronic Cellars was born. As the Beckett boys say, “Fun labels, serious wines”.
Availability: Chronic Cellars’ Purple Paradise 2017 is set to be released in the lead up to Halloween. Some stores may already have it on the shelf and by next week, it will be in-store and available for online ordering. Stock up so the wine lasts longer than the candy does!
