In-Location Alliance Formalizes Activities As a New IEEE-ISTO Member Program
IEEE-ISTO recently announced In-Location Alliance as a new member program.
Established in August 2012, In-Location Alliance has been driving global indoor positioning solutions and services, and pioneering new use cases and business models for this technology. The Alliance joined IEEE-ISTO to make the organization a more visible and efficient industry collaboration platform to promote and accelerate the deployment of indoor positioning solutions, products, and services.
In-Location Alliance promotes indoor positioning solutions that offer high-accuracy, low-power consumption, mobility, and usability for consumers and enterprises alike. Its work includes facilitation for pre-commercial pilot programs, business and use case verification, system architecture, and industry collaboration.

IEEE Conformity Assessment Program Announces the Official Launch of the IEEE 1588™ Telecommunications Certification Program
The IEEE Conformity Assessment Program (ICAP), advancing and accelerating market adoption of standards-conforming products, recently announced the official launch of the IEEE 1588™ Telecommunications Certification Program. The IEEE 1588 Telecommunications Certification Program has been developed to validate the conformance of IEEE 1588-2008 implementations in telecommunications environments, with a focus on the requirements for synchronization in high growth, packet-based, mobile backhaul networks.
“IEEE-ISTO is excited to be supporting the telecommunications industry with the launch of the IEEE 1588 Telecommunications Certification Program,” said Marco W. Migliaro, President and CEO, Industry Standards and Technology Organization (IEEE-ISTO). “The program is expected to increase confidence and improve consistency in the evaluation and procurement of telecommunications products.”

MIPI® Alliance Celebrates 10 Year Anniversary
MIPI® Alliance, a global, collaborative organization comprised of companies that span the mobile ecosystem and are committed to defining and promoting interface specifications for mobile devices, recently celebrated its ten year anniversary at an award's ceremony at the NHL Hall of Fame in Toronto, Canada on 9 October 2013.

IEEE-Led Panel Selected For SXSW
A panel of seasoned digital security experts, moderated by Joni Brennan, Kantara Initiative Executive Director and IEEE Senior Program Manager, was selected from a pool of over 3000 entries to appear at next year's South By Southwest (SXSW) Interactive Festival held 7-11 March in Austin, TX.
Joining Joni on stage for a panel session titled Tips & Tools for Protected Connection, is Lucy Lynch of ISOC, Eve Maler of Forrester Research, and Karen Reilly of the Tor Project. The group will explore the practices, tools, networks and policies that are helping users more effectively protect their digital identities, as well as discuss common notions of the words “privacy” and “identity” and the explore various interpretations that traverse concept, context and even social and personal politics.
