The more you know, the better the tow

Welcome to Issue 39 of Crash Towing Industry News.

Thank you to towing businesses that have submitted an authorisation application.

The Towing Governance and Regulation (TG&R) team have been contacting applicants regarding their applications and seeking additional information (if required).

If you are unsure of the status of your application, please contact the TG&R team on the contact details below. Outcomes of authorisation applications are expected to be issued shortly.

A reminder that businesses conducting regulated (crash) towing services in the Perth and Peel region must be authorised by 1 September 2026.

Once you have been authorised, you are obligated to update your authorisation if there is a change in responsible officer/s, close associates, towing workers, tow trucks or storage yards involved in regulated (crash) towing services.

While we are enhancing our systems later this year to allow this to be done through DoTDirect, this week’s newsletter covers:

  1. How to add or remove a close associate, towing worker or responsible officer once a Towing Business Authorisation has been approved
  2. Approval timeframes for close associate, towing worker or responsible officer changes
  3. How to add or remove a tow truck once a Towing Business Authorisation has been approved
  4. Approval timeframes for tow truck requests
  5. Updating storage yard details once Towing Business Authorisation has been approved and approval timeframes.

Changing a close associate, towing worker or responsible officer once a Towing Business Authorisation has been approved

Businesses who wish to change (add or remove) a close associate, towing worker or responsible officer must provide their National Police Clearance (NPC) before they undertake any regulated (crash) towing activities. Until DoTDirect enhancements have been released, the NPC can be submitted using the unique QR code provided by TG&R.

Approval timeframes for new towing worker requests

We aim to assess a new close associate, towing worker or responsible officer within four (4) business days. Timeframes may vary depending on the circumstances and whether all required information has been provided, particularly where a NPC requires further verification or additional information is requested. Urgent matters may be prioritised on a case-by-case basis.

Adding a new tow truck once a Towing Business Authorisation has been approved

Businesses who wish to add a tow truck must provide information using the T15 Tow Truck Authorisation Details form before the vehicle is used for regulated (crash) towing activities. Information can be submitted using the individualised QR code provided by TG&R.

Approval timeframes for new tow truck requests

We aim to assess new tow truck requests within two (2) business days. Timeframes may vary depending on the circumstances and whether all required information has been provided. Urgent matters may be prioritised on a case-by-case basis.

Updating storage yard details once a Towing Business Authorisation has been approved

Businesses who wish to update storage yard details must provide the information and documentation using the T29 Storage Yard Authorisation Details form. Information required to be updated relating to storage yards can be submitted using the unique QR code provided by TG&R. The process may take up to four (4) weeks. Urgent matters may be prioritised on a case-by-case basis.
