STATE OF THE FILM INDUSTRY Gwinnett Rotary Club recently hosted Beth Talbert of EagleRock Studios and Lisa Anders of Explore Gwinnett to discuss the current condition of the local film industry. The pandemic brought filming to a halt in March, and Georgia has been one of the first places to begin again. One benefit for Georgia, as opposed to Los Angeles or New York, is that the infectious cases of COVID-19 are lower and the regulations at the state level are less strict. Gwinnett, specifically, is one of the most camera-friendly counties. Talbert, also a COVID compliance officer for filming, noted that the COVID protocols for film crews are extensive and testing is required for all members. However, business is booming and film crews are being proactive, with EagleRock stages being booked as far as a year in advance. Anders, Gwinnett County’s Camera Ready representative, pointed out that an increase in content providers has created more demand for content. Shows you may recognize that have been filmed right here in Gateway85 include Genius, Ozark, and Dynasty. Georgia’s film industry was also recently discussed on the It’s Complicated podcast by the Atlanta Business Chronicle. “It has come roaring back,” said Lee Thomas, deputy commissioner of the Georgia Film, Music and Digital Entertainment office. According to Thomas, 2021 is projected to be a bustling year for the state’s entertainment industry. Listen to the podcast here. FREIGHT & LOGISTICS UPDATE Future of Freight and LogisticsOn November 10, Georgia Chamber of Commerce hosted key leaders in the transportation industry to discuss ongoing and long-term needs for infrastructure growth and Georgia’s supply chains. COVID-19 VaccineModerna, a biotechnology company, has developed a Covid-19 vaccine that they say was 94.5% effective in a preliminary analysis of their clinical trial. Results from the trial showed that nearly all symptomatic cases of Covid-19 were prevented. There were also no severe cases among people who got the vaccine, as opposed to 11 cases in volunteers who received a placebo shot. Interested in learning more about the trial? Click here.
