Wine of the Weekend

Bread & Butter Pinot Noir

This week’s wine is a Pinot Noir, and while the home of Pinot is still Burgundy, France, California has left enough of a mark on this grape to have a style all to itself. Originally, California winemakers attempted to emulate the French, but while learning the nature of their land, they created a style that suited them better: juicy, fruit forward and ready to charm your palate without emptying your bank account. Bread & Butter Pinot Noir is a wonderful example and it’s also on sale until November 7!

Tasting Notes: 100% Pinot Noir, with a juicy fruit profile of cherries, raspberries and wild strawberries. The oak used adds sweet spices and vanilla notes, drawn out over the long, smooth finish.

Enjoy With: Duck breast or beef bourguignon for a classic pairing. It’s also a great match for roasted mushrooms, barbeque chicken, cedar plank salmon, gruyere cheese, or as a satisfying sip on its own.

Style: A dry, light-bodied, red wine.

Terroir/Region: Bread & Butter Pinot Noir combines the efforts of growers up and down the California coast. These vineyards, situated near the ocean, benefit from cool air and morning fog that allows the grapes to gradually be exposed to the sun, creating balanced flavours so good that the California-style of Pinot has been reproduced the world over.

Producer: The team at Bread & Butter wines began with the goal of creating high-quality everyday wines. They believe that a great wine should be something that is affordable, delicious enough for you to enjoy at home or be happy to give as a gift, and is consistent from year to year, so you never have to guess what it will taste like.

Availability: Bread & Butter Pinot Noir can be found in the California section of your local LCBO and is $2.00 off until November 7.
