Wine of the Weekend

High Heaven Majestic Pines Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Washington State wines don’t get the respect they deserve.  The state has the right conditions to grow almost any grape, and since it’s still new on the global wine scene, prices for its top bottles are less than some regions further south that rhyme with ‘Grappa’. This week we bring you a shining example of what the Columbia Valley can produce. High Heaven Majestic Pines Cabernet Sauvignon offers intense fruit and velvety tannins at a very friendly price.

Tasting Notes: Rich aromas of dark berries, currants and cassis dominate as you take a sip and taste how explosive Washington fruit can be. Baking spices, tobacco and dark chocolate complete the flavour profile, and a splash of Merlot rounds out the texture and tannins of this Cabernet.

Enjoy With: Grilled red meats like burgers, beef ribs or steak, hard cheeses like aged cheddar, or enjoy all on its own!

Style: A balanced, full-bodied red wine.

Terroir/Region: High Heaven Vintners is based in the Columbia Valley, the largest growing region in Washington State. Vineyards are located in the "Rain Shadow" formed by the Cascade Mountains, a unique cloud and rain barrier protecting the vines from harsh elements. This creates a warm, sunny and dry climate - considered the high desert - that is ideal for grape growing.

Producer: High Heaven Vintners is owned by the Zirkle family, which has been farming apples, pears, cherries and wine grapes in Washington since the 1880s. Today, the family is the largest supplier of organic apples in the U.S. Mark Zirkle, company president and fifth generation family member, uses the same philosophy which has guided the family business for over 100 years: strengthen the community by producing excellence.

Availability: High Heaven Majestic Pines Cabernet Sauvignon will be available in the Vintages section of your local LCBO and for online ordering on Saturday September 5, but some stores may already have it on the shelf.
