MYAN WA August Meeting

It was a full house at the last MYAN WA meeting held at the Central Institute of Technology in Leederville.

The meeting opened with a presentation from Nadine Liddy, National Coordinator of MYAN Australia. Nadine spoke about the work MYAN Australia and of the soon to be launched Youth Settlement Framework. Carmel Guerra, founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Centre for Multicultural Youth (CMY) then inspired the network with her presentation of how CMY went from a small network of youth workers 25 years ago, to the strong organisation it is today, advocating for young people and influential in policy and research. If you missed the meeting, you can access the the MYAN Australia and CMY presentations on the MYAN WA website.

During the second half of the meeting, attendees brainstormed and came up with a number of ideas about what they want to see from MYAN WA into the future. This information will form the starting point, for a project kicking off in September looking at developing a sustainable and relevent model for MYAN WA over the coming years. The notes from this discussion can be accessed here.

MYAN WA - Conversation with Education

Our next MYAN WA micro session will focus on education. The Manager of the EAL/D Program at the Department of Education will join us for a short presentation and discussion. This is a great opportunity for you to ask questions about what support is provided for young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds within the school system. It is also a chance for the Department of Education to hear your thoughts about what's working, what isn't and what needs to change.

Places are strictly limited to 20. Book here to secure your spot.

Peace building refers to any work that builds the capacities of individual young people and youth groups to manage conflict and extremism in their communities and nations. Conflict can be of a religious, cultural or social nature.
