Message from the Headteacher

Dear Parents/Carers,

It has been an exciting couple of weeks since I officially started in role as Headteacher of The Ongar Academy.

You may have heard the fantastic news that the Academy has gained the agreements necessary to secure our preferred site. This means we are now set to build a new multi-million pound facility on land adjacent to the Ongar Leisure Centre. The design stage will commence soon but we are already outlining plans and the first impressions are breathtaking. This really will be a world-class school for the children of Ongar and the surrounding villages.

We have been overwhelmed by the positive response to the school and I look forward to welcoming prospective parents to our Open Days this Saturday 17th January and on Sunday 25th January. I can promise a very informative and exciting morning!
 
 

We are also finalising plans for the recruitment of teaching staff and have already been contacted by over 50 teachers who are keen to join the team. Adverts will be placed in the coming weeks and our Staff Recruitment Fair takes place on 24th January. Judging by the high calibre of teachers who have registered their interest so far I have every confidence we will recruit the very best teachers for your children.

I very much look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events.

Open Days 17th and 25th January

Don't miss our Open Days which are taking place in the run-up to the closing date for Year 7 applications: 

Saturday 17th January
9.30am to 12.00pm        
Headteacher talks: 10.15am, 11.15am.             
Sunday 25th January
9.30am to 12.00pm      
Headteacher talks: 10.15am, 11.15am.

The Open Days are for all prospective parents but if your child starts secondary school this September, please do come along and learn about the ‘risk-free’ process for applying for a place at our free, brand new secondary school. You can also join our waiting list for September 2016 onwards.

At our Open Days, parents and children will be able to meet the team, receive detailed information about the curriculum, and gain the latest information about the school premises.

  • Meet David Grant who joins us as Headteacher from ‘Herts and Essex’ (the 4th highest performing non-selective secondary school)
  • Meet the Governing Body and team
  • Pick up a copy of our brand new Prospectus
  • Latest information about the site and plans for our state-of-the-art, brand new, multi-million pound school buildings
  • Transition plans for the students
  • Fun science activities for the children (provided by Mad Science)
  • Visit the Ongar Leisure Centre to view the extensive range of sporting facilities available to The Ongar Academy 
 
 

Get involved!

This week sees the launch of The Ongar Academy's Parent and Supporters' Association (PSA). 

Prospective parents and other interested members of the community who are interested in helping promote the school are invited to visit the PSA stand at the Open Days on Saturday 17th or Sunday 25th January, from 9.30am to 12.00pm. You will be able to talk to local parents about their involvement with Ongar's brand new school as well as join the group yourself. Alternatively, please email your contact details to the Chair of Governors, Pete Marchant, at chair@theongaracademy.org and he will get back to you with more details about how you can get involved.

"Of all the teams that we have around The Ongar Academy, this will be one of the most important. Mums, dads, grandparents and guardians of children who will soon be attending the Academy have been knocking at our door to get involved in various ways, including supporting the Academy's various events and spreading the word amongst their friends, family and neighbours about the opportunities that the school will provide for the whole community. We're very excited about this new development because it means that the school is starting to be owned by the community that it always set out to serve."

An application to The Ongar Academy is a risk-free choice for 2015 as applications are made in addition to the usual Local Authority process. This gives parents and carers the chance to be offered two places, one from The Ongar Academy and one through the Local Authority. You can then choose which to accept.

Apply for a Year 7 2015 place via our website by 31st January 2015.
