April 2018 Smarter Together News 

Welcome to the latest edition of news from the Smarter Together project, a member of the EU Horizon 2020 research program. The European lighthouse cities Vienna, Munich and Lyon; the follower cities Santiago de Compostela, Sofia and Venice; and the observer cities Kiev and Yokohama come together in order to improve the quality of life of their citizens. Below you will find updates on the development of co-created and replicable Smart City solutions in 5 concrete areas– citizen engagement, district heating & renewable energy, holistic refurbishment, smart data and e-mobility.

 
 

Smarter Together Gathers at 2nd General Assembly in Vienna

From 7-9 March, Smarter Together gathered for its second General Assembly, an annual meeting with all cities and partners involved in the EU Horizon 2020 programme-funded smart cities project. For more information on the 3 days of exchange, take a look at the press release here.

 

Smarter Together Hosts Webinar on Collective Self-Consumption 

On 21 March, Smarter Together hosted its first webinar on the topic of collective self-consumption, a new business model for PV systems. Expert from HESPUL and Smarter Together technical lead Bruno Gaiddon guided participants through this important energy topic. The video recording of the webinar is available here.

“Building Together” – Helping People Understand Technology

A workshop in Munich's Urban Living Lab at the end of 2017 gave anyone in the project area who was interested in the chance to be involved in the development of scenarios for smart lamp posts.  The goal was to make the built-in sensors more visible and interactive. A New Eco-refurbishment Project in Lyon Confluence

An additional group of owners has confirmed its participation in the eco-refurbishment of their cooperatively owned apartment building as part of the Smarter Together project. The refurbishment of 61 Rue Delandine will comprise of a total 1400 square meters and 25 housing units. Click here for more information.

Vienna Receives European Mobility Week Award

On 21 March 2018, Vienna was awarded with the European Mobility Week Award 2017, for special achievements in the promotion of eco-friendly sustainable mobility. The award was presented by Violeta Bulc, the EU Commissioner for Transport. Click here to read more about the special honor.

Lighthouse City Collaboration Workshop

12 April - Lisbon, Portugal The Lighthouse cities from the 12 H2020-funded Lighthouse cities project will gather in Lisbon to collaborate on knowledge sharing and replication strategies, also visiting the newly retrofitted building of Lisbon city within the Sharing Cities programme. 

 
 

Webinar on Smart Lamp Posts and E-Government

16 May - Online, 11:30 AM Smarter Together will be holding the second of its webinar series, this time on the topic of smart lamp posts and e-government, from the perspective of Lighthouse city Munich and the innovations being implemented in these areas.

 
 
 

EU Sustainable Energy Week

4-8 June - Brussels, Belgium Smarter Together will again be participating at the European Sustainable Energy Week, an initiative dedicated to "promote initiatives to save energy and move towards renewables for clean, secure and efficient power.".
