Wine of the Weekend

Mina Mesa Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

With July 7 marking ‘World Chocolate Day’ (or one of the ‘World Chocolate Days’), we thought we should try to match up. Really, everyday should be World Chocolate Day, but July 7, 1550 was the date chocolate was first introduced to Europe and that’s good enough for us! We have decided to match Mina Mesa Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon with a nice dark chocolate – because who doesn’t want an excuse for a glass of wine and some chocolate?

Tasting Note: Mina Mesa Cabernet Sauvignon opens with aromas of blackberries and ripe plums, enhanced by notes of tarragon and mocha. Intense, balanced flavours shine through in the lingering finish of concentrated red fruit with hints of vanilla.

Enjoy With: Classic Cabernet pairings like grilled red meats, portobello mushrooms and rich stews, but also with dark chocolate, maybe 70% cacao or more. Remember, darker chocolate is better unless you are drinking a sweeter wine.

Style: A dry, full-bodied red wine.

Terroir / Region: The Paso Robles region is set along the California coastline between Los Angeles and San Francisco. With warm days and cool evenings, Paso Robles is known for producing juicy, fruity Cabernet Sauvignons and Mina Mesa is a textbook example.

Producer: Mina Mesa reflects Troy Javadi’s passion for agriculture and the grit of a seventh-generation farmer. Troy attributes the success of his farming to three factors: “I get up early, work hard, and I am willing to take on challenges,” His passion shines through in the bright bold flavours of this Paso Robles Cabernet.

Availability: Mina Mesa Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 will be available in the Vintages section of your local LCBO and for online ordering on Saturday July 10, but some stores may already have it on the shelf. Enjoy this weekend’s celebration!
