Celebrate spring in Europe with Bang on a Can!  New York’s electric Bang on a Can All-Stars are heading across the Atlantic for a blockbuster set of concerts in Denmark, England, and the Netherlands.

The tour kicks off on April 16 with the European premiere of Julia Wolfe’s Pulitzer-prize winning oratorio Anthracite Fields, to be performed live by the All-Stars and the Danish National Vocal Ensemble, conducted by Ralf Chaczewsky at the Queens Hall at Black Diamond, the brand new extension of the Danish National Library.  Join us for an early concert at 4:00pm! The All-Stars blaze through London on Sunday, April 17 to perform “Field Recordings, Vol. 2 at Milton Court, Barbican Centre.  The concert features many UK premieres of recent commissions from an impossibly broad range of composers including Bryce Dessner, Anna Clyne, Dan Deacon, Ben Frost, Jóhann Jóhannsson, Alvin Lucier, Christian Marclay, Paula Matthusen,  Richard Reed Parry, Steve Reich, Todd Reynolds, Daniel Wohl, and Julia WolfeTix & Info. (And we've got some fun videos of Field Recordings live to boot.)

On April 20-21 the All-Stars reunite with the stunning Norwegian singers Trio Mediaeval for performances of Julia Wolfe’s Steel Hammer, performances on April 20 at Laurenskerk, Rotterdam (presented by De Doelen) and April 21 at the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ Amsterdam, one of our favorite annual homes away from home! For the tour finale on April 23, Bang on a Can invades De Doelen, Rotterdam with its incomparable super-mix of bold & innovative compositions from around the corner and around the world.  The Bang on a Can Marathon on April 23 at De Doelen, Rotterdam is a day-night 7+ hour feast of music including: a world premiere collaboration between New York’s electric Bang on a Can All-Stars and Dutch comrades Ensemble Klang, performing brand new music by Pete Harden; Bang on a Can’s acclaimed live arrangements of Brian Eno’s ambient classic Music for Airports, performed together with musicians of CodArts Rotterdam; a set of classic core repertoire from New York’s celebrated Bang on a Can co-founders Michael Gordon, David Lang, Julia Wolfe, plus late-great UK composer Steve Martland’s trademark work Horses of Instruction; Ensemble Klang performing Fuse by Rotterdam’s own eclectic and electric composer Jan-Bas Bollen, plus Peter Adriaansz’ radiant and mesmerizing Nu descendant un escalier, the fast and furious ppop by Oscar Bettison, and Tom Johnson’s whimsical and epic Narayana’s Cows; special gems from the Bang on a Can All-Stars’ 2015 record release Field Recordings including a choice pick from Anna Clyne and a new film/score by visual art-star Christian Marclay; refreshing highlights from Bang on a Can All-Stars’ own Dutch repertoire including the electro-acoustic Fix/us by Martijn Padding and Dutch master Louis Andriessen’s scenic and meditative Life with films by video artist Marijke Van Warmerdam; and don’t miss your chance to break bread with all of the artists along the way during the “tafelmuziek” dinner party!
