Wine of the Weekend

Nicolas Feuillatte Réserve Exclusive Brut Champagne

This is the last Wine of the Weekend of the DECADE! Are you looking back over the last 10 years and looking forward to the next 10? Either way, when you’re getting introspective it helps to have a glass in your hand, and to toast the last 10 years and the next 10, Champagne is the way to go. Our glasses will be filled with Nicolas Feuillatte Réserve Brut at 11:59 pm on December 31, and probably a few times before that and a few times after that too! Happy New Year all!

Tasting Notes: Nicolas Feuillatte Réserve Brut Champagne is a fresh and vibrant expression of the style: juicy pear, apple, crunchy apricot and fresh bread all dance across your taste buds with delicate bubbles. An elegant mineral note mingles with the intense and expressive fruit, stretching out over a long finish. Bottom’s up!

Enjoy With: Appetizers like smoked salmon or ripe cheeses, and with main dishes featuring seafood or roast poultry with vegetables. Like many sparkling wines, it’s an excellent food wine, but also a refreshing and delicious way to start 2020 on its own!

Style: A dry, crisp and elegant sparkling wine.

Terroir/Region: The Champagne region is made up of several valleys and sub-regions, and over time, the proper grape has found its home in each place. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier make up the traditional blend of Champagne. Pinot Noir adds body, elegance and perfume; Chardonnay brings fresh acidity and structure; and Pinot Meunier brings richness and fruit.

Producer: The Nicolas Feuillatte Champagne house was founded by the man himself – Nicolas Feuillatte – but after he met Henri Macquart, it expanded into one of the most important co-ops in Champagne. It became a place where growers can make wine together, instead of selling their grapes to one of the larger houses. Now more than 4500 growers bring in grapes from all over the region and help create a high-quality wine encapsulating the flavours of the entire Champagne region.
