2019 CARIP and Carbon Neutral Reporting Deadline Approaching

The Climate Action Revenue Incentive Program (CARIP) is a conditional grant that provides funding to eligible local government signatories to the BC Climate Action Charter, equivalent to one hundred percent of the carbon taxes they pay directly. To be eligible for the CARIP grant, local governments are required to fill out the CARIP survey and report on their climate actions and progress towards carbon neutrality by June 1, 2019.

Canada’s Changing Climate Report

Recent report from the Government of Canada found that Canada is warming at twice the rate compared to the global average. The Canada in a Changing Climate: Advancing our Knowledge for Action report is about how and why Canada’s climate has changed and what changes are projected for the future. The report documents changes across Canada in temperature, precipitation, snow, ice, permafrost and freshwater availability as well as in Canada’s three oceans.

Saanich Agriculture and Food Security Plan

Success Story: Saanich Adopts Agriculture and Food Security Plan

The District of Saanich recently adopted new Agriculture and Food Security Plan which sets a long-term vision to support a thriving, accessible, and environmentally responsible food system. The Plan outlines household waste reduction, sustainable water management, integration with natural ecosystems, and increased local production as strategies to reduce food related emissions in the community and support the new commitment by the District to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 80% below 2007 levels by 2050.

ZEV Incentives

Federal Zero-Emission Vehicles (ZEV) Incentives

If you’re looking to electrify your fleet, the federal government has announced purchase and lease incentives program for new zero-emission vehicles. The program will kick in on May 1st, 2019 and will provide an incentive for consumers who buy or lease an eligible ZEV. The federal ZEV incentive can be applied in addition to incentives offered by the Province.

Canada’s National Adaptation Conference 2020 - Call for Abstracts

The call for abstracts is now open for Adaptation Canada 2020 conference, hosted in Vancouver February 19-21, 2020. The deadline for submissions is May 21, 2019. The conference will bring together experts and leaders from across sectors and regions to work on one of the most urgent issues of our time — how to build climate change resilience in our communities, ecosystems and economies.
