Fair Trade Products at Nugget Markets

October is Fair Trade month, and although Nugget Markets is committed to bringing our guests Fair Trade products all year long, we thought we’d take this opportunity to share some information about the Fair Trade products we offer.

Alter Eco

Alter Eco Line

What they offer: A wide range of Fair Trade products that includes tea, rice, quinoa and sugar.

Why we love them: Alter Eco products reflect the diversity, traditions and cultures of the small farmers who cultivate them. This is socially responsible gourmet at its finest.

BasketAfrica African Baskets

What they offer: Handcrafted baskets made by artisans in Africa.

Why we love them: BasketAfrica works directly with their artisans to ensure they’re receiving fair wages and good working conditions. The products are of consistent high-quality, and the value is fantastic.

World of Good World Of Good

What they offer: Jewelry, purses, housewares and other handicraft items.

Why we love them: Besides being blown away by the incredible selection of products, we love World of Good because of their support of women all over the world. Seventy-five percent of World of Good’s thousands of artisans are women, and this socially conscious company provides them with fair wages, safe working conditions and long-term, sustainable economic support.

Coffee + Chocolate

Coffee Chocolate Pairings

We don’t need to tell you that chocolate and coffee make a perfect pair. However, to be a true connoisseur (or to impress people at dinner parties), don’t you want to know which coffees and chocolates best compliment one another? Study this handy guide:

Earthy and full-bodied coffees, like Nugget’s Sumatra, Kon Tiki and House blends, pair well with very dark chocolates – those that are 65 percent cacao or more. Try the Alter Eco Dark Velvet Chocolate or Vintage Plantation 100 percent Dark Chocolate bars.

Sweet and clean, medium-bodied coffees, like Nugget’s CHP blend, Brazil Daterra or Kona blend, go great with medium dark chocolates (about 55 to 65 percent cacao). Try Alter Eco’s Dark Chocolate Almond or Vintage Plantation’s 65 percent Dark Chocolate with Cocoa Nibs bars.

Fruit-toned, mild coffees, like Nugget’s Ethiopia blend or Equator Coffees’ Fair Trade Mocha Java, pair best with milk chocolate. We suggest Alter Eco’s Moka or Cajou bars.
