Pick of the Weekend

Wine of the Weekend

Tini Sangiovese Romagna DOC, Emilia-Romagna, Italy

This weekend, treat yourself to one of the least expensive wines available at the LCBO. The ‘treat’ is that Tini Sangiovese tastes like it should be way more expensive than $7.75. This rustic Italian red is charming, affordable and perfect for sharing. Grab a few friends and throw a ‘Let’s get together, eat pizza and watch Chef’s Table on Netflix’ party.

Tasting Notes: Tini is vibrant red in colour. You will find classic Sangiovese aromas of ripe cherry, earth and violets on the nose with a hint of smoky spice. It’s lively on the palate with perfectly balanced acidity and good flavour intensity. A vibrant dark cherry and raspberry core is nicely complemented by rustic notes of smoke, earth and spice on the finish.

Enjoy With: Tomato-based pasta dishes, pizza, grilled meat and veggies or sausage.

Style: Medium-bodied and fruity red wine.

Terroir/Region: Romagna is the large wine region located in the eastern part of Emilia-Romagna and is famous for producing top quality, affordable Sangiovese-based wine. In 2001, the appellation of Romagna DOC was formed to include a large number of smaller regions in order to simplify production and labelling.

Producer: Tini is made by a cooperative called Caviro. The group was first established in 1966 when nine producers decided to work together. Today, Caviro brings together 41 member wineries and more than 20,000 growers from all over Italy. Caviro’s thermal power plant uses by-products of the winemaking process to create energy used by the winery.

Availability: Tini Sangiovese is available all year round in the Italian section at the LCBO.
