Midwest Inland Port Development Brings New Opportunity for T/CCI

A recent rail redevelopment in Decatur, Illinois will reduce costs and increase efficiency for T/CCI Manufacturing. Before the development, T/CCI routed shipments through Joliet, Illinois and trucked to Decatur—now shipments arrive to Decatur via rail. “Our shipping capacity has nearly doubled by being able to use larger containers,” said Kara Demirjian Huss, T/CCI Vice President and Global Marketing Director. These changes will significantly reduce transportation costs and get product to the market faster for our customers.

T/CCI’s Dennis Flaherty Looks Toward the Future

Describe your role with TCCI.

As the Vice-President of Global Operations I am responsible for the efficient operation of T/CCI’s six global locations. In addition to the global responsibilities, I am the General Manager for the Decatur, Illinois location, and as such, I oversee the daily activity of the operation and direction to all staff.

What’s been your best experience working for T/CCI?
Being part of the team that has helped guide the company to quadruple growth in revenue in spite of being in a down economic period.

What opportunities do you see in the industry?
With the expansions we have made, both in geographical market and product offering, I believe we foresee outstanding growth potential in our current business at T/CCI.  In addition, we are continuing to develop new products that our customers have expressed an interest in. They are looking for alternatives to the complacent incumbent suppliers who do not place the same priority and level of service on their business as T/CCI does.

How have your experiences/knowledge from past roles shaped your experience in your current role?
I was fortunate to have the opportunity to manage a material handling equipment-manufacturing company before coming to T/CCI. In this role I worked directly with a very diverse customer base of all types of manufacturing companies. However, the bulk of the work involved working with vehicle manufacturing companies and their suppliers to solve problems in their operations. Combined with my educational experience as an Industrial Engineering undergrad and MBA, with a special focus on supply chain management, this has given me the experience to lead a dedicated group of employees along this path of success.
