A collaboration between Monster Truck Gallery and Studios, The Wexford Arts Centre and the residency programme at Cow House Studios, Wexford

Now in its second year, Monster Truck Gallery is pleased to present the works of four artists from the residency programme at Cow House Studios, Wexford, which will also tour to the Wexford Arts Centre in September 2013. The artists were chosen by all three organisations and each artist spent ten weeks developing their work on residency, interacting with the co-curators from the three organisations and considering new works for presentation across both the Monster Truck Gallery and the Wexford Arts Centre.

Colin Matthes (US), Lois Patino (ES), Marc Horowitz (US) and Susie Tarnowicz (US) were participants in the 2012 Artist Residency program at Cow House Studios, Wexford. Their work represents a range of perspectives, mediums and working methods. This exhibition explores the disjunction between their observations and representations of environment, and how this separation alters perceptions of our landscape, private and public space, customs, traditions and habits.

May 17th - June 15th

Opening reception Thursday May 16th 6 - 8pm

The practitioners featured in this exchange between Catalyst Arts and Monster Truck are all connected to, and/or based in Belfast. The city is often subject to misrepresentation – a result of a one-dimensional (international) press coverage of events happening in what is otherwise a diverse, dynamic and culturally rich city. In response, the works proposed for this exhibition in different ways examine, subvert or challenge ideas surrounding the theme of representation, while questioning how a perception of a particular place, a subject or of the human condition can be mediated by the methods used to portray it.

A Monster Truck Project
Monster Truck’s exhibition will look at how seven sculptors utilise walls and other vertical gallery surfaces in a variety of different ways that is essential to their work, whether laying bare the processes of artistic design, using painterly techniques to expand narratives, elaborating into three dimensions from two, or amplifying the dialogue between construction and representation.  The show will not be a typical ‘in the round’ affair, with floor works being tethered to the wall in various ways.
