€50,000 Music Education Bursary Established by DES

The Department of Education and Skills invites applications for grants under the newly established Non-mainstream Music Education Bursary Scheme 2016. 

The purpose of the scheme is to provide support by way of a cash grant, to established, smaller-scale, non-mainstream music education/community music initiatives with limited or no access to other forms of public funding. Grants are not intended for use on capital expenditure such as structural/building costs, but can be used for instruments. Total budget available in 2016 is €50,000.

National Campaign for the Arts General Election 2016 Campaign

In advance of the General Election 2016, the National Campaign for the Arts are driving a campaign that aims to put the arts on the agenda for all candidates and parties declared for General Election 2016.

As well as writing a NCFA Manifesto, they have compiled a list of the Party Policies and Manifestos and populated a lot of the constituencies with an NCFA Coordinator, all of which can be found at http://ncfa.ie/campaign/ncfa-campaigns.

International Federation of Musicians Petition

The International Federation of Musicians are calling on the EU Council to follow the EU Parliament who recently adopted article 6e in the revised regulation 2027/97 as an answer to the needs of musicians traveling by plane with their instrument.

However, the revised regulation will not enter into force until it is adopted in the exact same terms by both the EU Parliament and the EU Council.

Reminder - Peter Rosser Composition Award

The Peter Rosser Foundation and Hard Rain Soloist Ensemble have launched the 1st Peter Rosser Composition Award supported by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.

London born, composer, writer, educator and arts advocate Peter Rosser moved to Belfast in 1990 where he studied composition at the University of Ulster.

The award intends to encourage a new generation of Irish and Northern Irish composers by challenging them to create exciting new work for the Hard Rain Soloist Ensemble.

The award is open to composers born or domicile in N. Ireland and Republic of Ireland. The competition is open to composers regardless of age. However, the award is aimed at emerging composers. The organisers, therefore, welcome submissions from composers at the start of their careers and composers without a substantial track record of performances or commissions.

The deadline for the submission of entries is 4pm Friday 29th April 2016.

Jerome Hynes Young Composers' Award

Jerome Hynes Young Composers' Award

The National Concert Hall invites composers to apply for the Jerome Hynes Young Composers’ Award 2016.

This award is for the commission of a new work for soprano and piano. As part of the commissioning process, the composer has the unique opportunity to work collaboratively with the 2015 Bernadette Greevy Bursary Awardee on this new work. The new work will be premiered during the Bernadette Greevy Bursary Recital in Autumn 2016, giving the young composer a platform to showcase their talent.

Opportunities for Musicians

Auditions to be held on Thursday 7, Friday 8 and possibly Saturday 9 April 2016. Successful applicants will be invited to an audition consisting of the first movement of either the WA Mozart Bassoon Concerto in Bb K191, or the Weber Bassoon Concerto in F Op 75, and orchestra excerpts. No cadenzas are required. Orchestral excerpts will be provided in advance by the Philharmonia.
