Albert Bichot ‘Old Vines’ Bourgogne Pinot Noir, Vintage 2015

When you think of ‘The Classics’, what comes to mind? For music, is it Mozart or Beethoven? For film, Citizen Kane or The Godfather? When wine comes up, ‘The Classics’ means France, and one of the most iconic French classics is Pinot Noir from Burgundy. Pinot Noir is at home in Burgundy and has been for centuries. The Bichot family has also been at home in Burgundy for centuries (settling there in 1350) and has been working with Pinot Noir since the family business was founded in 1831. Needless to say, they know what they’re doing when they make a wine like their Albert Bichot ‘Old Vines’ Bourgogne Pinot Noir.

Tasting Notes:  100% Pinot Noir, bright and balanced, showing flavours of wild strawberries and raspberries, red currant, soft earthy notes and light oak spices.

Enjoy With:  The classic pairings are duck confit and beef bourguignon, but this wine will pair very nicely with roasted or grilled meats, poultry, vegetables and soft cheeses.

Style:  A dry, light-bodied and fruity red.

Terroir/Region:  The Burgundy region is located in eastern-central France, centred along a hillside known as the Cote d’Or where the world’s finest Pinot Noir is grown. The wines from the “Golden Slope” are the stuff of legend with every little hill-face having named vineyards or being an official wine region unto itself. The diverse soils and varied angles of the hills create subtle, haunting differences in the finished wines which are some of the most prized possessions in the wine world.

Producer:  The Bichot family began its wine trade in 1831 and the company’s namesake, Albert, was the family’s third generation in the business. Albert brought new momentum to the family’s business in France and his son (Albert as well), took its wines to the world. Now the fifth generation (including the third Albert) carries the business forward, focusing on organics and expanding its properties while upholding the family’s reputation for quality.
