Abstract:
Community radio stations in the slums of Nairobi are mainly produced and listened to by young people. They give young people training and job opportunities and play an import role in the local youth’s identity construction. But the weak financial situation of community radio forces everyone to work without payment, which raises the question whether community radio in fact empower marginalised youth or further exploits them?
