As readers of this newsletter know very well; the United States is facing a crisis: a rapidly aging population with mental and behavioral health needs that will require more human resources than are currently available. In addition, the existing and future workforce lacks access to the skills training necessary to work effectively with this expanding demographic. Experts maintain the U.S. must make significant changes and invest in the development of the older adult workforce to protect its economy. Engage with® Older Adults Skills Training, a national non-profit initiative, is a valuable resource to prepare for the needs of this aging older adult population. The program provides critical skills training for front line employees and informs administration and leadership about approaches to care that can help retain their workforce by improving the skills they use every day. This special offer for online training is intended to introduce administrators like you to the Engage with approach while allowing you to earn continuing education credits at no cost. Engage with® Older Adults Core Skills Training is a highly interactive, comprehensive, evidence-based training program intended to develop the skills and understanding needed to develop healthy relationships in a long-term care setting. While emphasizing a person-centered, trauma-informed approach, the “Core Skills” training teaches and refines skills that improve communication, as well as how to demonstrate respect, identify suicide risk, and to de-escalate. Topics covered also include reducing the impact of stigma, understanding mental illness from the perspective of the older adult, active listening, non-verbal communication, and engaging in meaningful ways. The live, real-time training takes place online in a virtual training center. Engage with® Older Adults Skills training utilizes an easy-to-use, innovative gamification approach to learning.
