Click here This summer, bills passed by the 33rd Alaska State Legislature were supported by Governor Dunleavy, with the potential to unlock opportunities for homebuyers and homeowners across our state. On July 31, 2024, Governor Dunleavy signed House Bill 273, allowing AHFC's board of directors to modify our Loan-to-Value requirements. Adjusting AHFC's LTV ratios will reduce the burden of down payments for first time homebuyers while continuing to adhere to the corporation’s fiscally responsible underwriting guidelines. We are grateful to Governor Dunleavy for championing this bill and look forward to seeing the difference it will make for Alaska families. An additional feature of HB273 is that AHFC has been given the opportunity to create a new subsidiary. The Alaska Sustainable Energy Corporation (Green Bank) will work to unlock federal energy funds, making Alaska's homes and businesses more resilient. While this legislation contributes to our excitement about Alaska's future, communities across our state have been impacted by recent tragedies and many Alaskans are struggling. Juneau experienced disastrous flooding this summer, for the second consecutive year, impacting roughly 300 homes. We know that this statistic doesn't fully represent the number of individual lives impacted by the disaster. In August, a landslide in Ketchikan tragically claimed the life of Sean Griffin, a husband, father, community member and dedicated public works employee who was assisting his community. Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to Sean's family and all who loved him. While the community of Ketchikan is mourning this loss, they are also trying to recover from the detrimental impacts of the landslide on homes and roads. I urge Juneau and Ketchikan residents impacted by these disasters to apply for individual assistance from the state, and to encourage their friends and neighbors to do the same. Folks don't always like to ask for help but Alaskans impacted by these tragedies should not have to carry the burden of damages and emergency expenses on their own, especially when help is available. We know that our Alaska communities are strongest when we turn to each other for support. AHFC's mission has remained the same for more than 50 years: providing Alaskans access to safe, quality, affordable housing. We are just one piece of a statewide network working to make a difference for Alaska families. Thank you for being part of that community. – Bryan In this newsletter:
