A Sneak Peek at the Forrst Redesign

A lot of you have told us how hard it can be to create a post on Forrst. The post editor can be a real pain in the ... you know. Trust us, we've also torn out our hair with it. But we're working on making it easier for you to create a post. Here's a sneak peek at what we're doing:

We've spent a lot of time figuring out how best you can craft a post that properly asks for feedback, even using our Park Guide as a ... well guide. We even considered how you might post from a mobile device. That's because we want you to create eye-catching posts witout a lot of hassle. A lot of you told us you'd rather leave comments on a mobile device, but wouldn't really use it for creating posts. Yet we've made that option available for those who want to ask questions on their phone or create posts with mobile images.

One thing that we're adding is rich-text editing so you don't have to rely solely on markdown to bold or italicize words. You'll even be able to create bulleted lists, something which is hard to do with the current editor. We're really excited about being able to actually format text without having to use markdown. It'll help you write your post faster than before.

We'd also like to thank Alex, J. Gallardo, Jacob Kelly, Cam Gould, Chris Goodwyn, Andrew Nevins, and Samara Dionne for their valuable feedback on the redesign. The feedback we're getting from the community is helping us shape how we approach the problems we're solving for you. But enough of that — let's see what's happening in the Forrst.

A Workaround for the Current Post Editor

We wanted to share a quick tip on using the current post editor. We've heard a few of you mention that it's hard to click back into the text field once you've clicked out. But there's a workaround. Simply highlight the text and click — and you'll be let back in to edit.

Feedback Pays Off for One Forrster

Forrster Tom Newton received a lot of feedback on his responsive portfolio site. He was able to take what everyone said and put it into the live version in this Ranger Pick. But he's still interested in hearing what folks think.

Ranger Snapshot: RTP Live Infographics

This Ranger Snapshot had us feeling like we'd come aboard the starship Enterprise. The interactive infographic helps a Portuguese media outlet keep track of the social reach of its channels. The design is bold, vibrant and futuristic.
