Educating managers about mental health can go a long way toward improving employee’s wellness and performance and reducing the economic burden of lost productivity. Responding with Respect is a new interactive skill-building workshop for managers, supervisors and those responsible for employee performance. It teaches how to have respectful conversations about mental health with your team using the 4R Action Toolkit®. More help on the way for people with substance use challengesPeople seeking help for substance use challenges will soon have access to more treatment and recovery options as 100 new beds are added across the province thanks to new funding from BC’s Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions. Care to Care Speak extended hours of operationWe've extended the hours of operation of the online peer support service, Care to Speak, to better accommodate the needs of health care workers impacted by the demands of working on the frontline of the COVID-19 pandemic. We're also seeking people with experience of working in frontline health care, to volunteer their time to provide confidential support one day a week. Understanding AddictionThis course helps employees and volunteers build the knowledge, self-awareness and skills to better support and provide services to people living with an addiction. The course is delivered through eight interactive online lessons and runs until June 8, 2021. Upcoming Living Life to the Full coursesThere are a number of new Living Life to the Full courses for adults starting this month. This 8-week community-based course provides simple, practical skills for coping with stress, problem solving, boosting your mood, and busting bad thoughts. Living Life to the Full certified facilitators present a new topic at each weekly class, bringing the skills to life though booklets, worksheets, group activities and discussions. The World is Bright documentary and discussionJoin Ying Wang, the film’s director plus mental health and immigration experts to discuss some of the themes explored in the film, such as the stigma surrounding mental illness, resources available to immigrant families, the dislocation and disconnection arising from global migration and the importance of cultural competence in mental health care. Upon registering you will be sent a link and password to watch the film in advance of the session.
