A Message from Dave Heitman - Interim Dean of Students

Greetings WJU Parents and Families,

The new year is underway and we are excited as a Student Life team to join with your son or daughter on their journey here at Jessup. Student Life exists to champion the student experience by providing a wide variety of opportunities for students to connect and grow in an learning environment of faith, hope and love.

Through all our programming and events we desire students participate in the opportunity to integrate faith and learning in Christian community. As parents and families, we want you to stay connected through some of the resources available to your students while they're a part of the Jessup Christian community. For updates on what is happening on campus, follow @jessuplife on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. You may also sign up for text updates by texting PARENT to 51400. Finally, downloading the Jessup Life app on your phone is a great way to see what's happening in chapel and other campus events.

To maintain such a unique community, students agree to the community covenant and adhere to the Student Handbook which outlines expectations of our students. We encourage you to review and discuss these community standards by visiting the helpful links provided in red. As a parent, you may hear about the challenges students face early on. We have a strong system of student care ready when your student needs additional support. Please know that our professional Residence Directors and peer Resident Advisers are prepared to support and refer students in each living area, and Student Care and health and wellness programs are available for every student, whether they are commuter or residential. We have an excellent partnership with a local faith-based counseling center where every student has access to short-term counseling services for just $10 per session.

If you have a concern for a student, you can always contact myself in our office, or fill out our student care reporting form.

We are honored to be a part of what God is doing in and through students at Jessup. Thank you for partnering with us in that journey of discovery and transformation!

Looking forward,

Dave Heitman, M.Ed.

Director of Residence Life and Student Care

Message From The Financial Aid Office: FASFA Update

Last September, President Obama announced significant changes to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Starting with the 2017–18 application cycle, the following changes will be put in place:

  • Students will be able to submit a FAFSA earlier.  Students will be able to file a 2017–18 FAFSA as early as Oct. 1, 2016, rather than beginning on Jan. 1, 2017. The earlier submission date will be a permanent change, enabling students to complete and submit a FAFSA as early as October 1 every year.
  • Students will use earlier income information. Beginning with the 2017–18 FAFSA, students will be required to report income information from an earlier tax year. For example, on the 2017–18 FAFSA, students (and parents, as appropriate) will report their 2015 income information, rather than their 2016 income information.

For additional information and a summary of key dates please click HERE or to speak with the Financial Aid Office directly please call (916) 577-2233 or email finaid@jessup.edu

Get Involved - Parent Committee and Prayer Network

We are looking for parents who are interested in partnering with the University to further support the success of their students and the development of the Parent Relations Department. There are two ways you can get involved.

(1) Parent Prayer Network: Remotely join with other parents to pray for our students, the campus and our community. Each month you will receive an email with a theme for the month and a list of prayer requests that have been submitted by fellow parents.

(2) Parent Committee: Looking to get involved on campus? Our Parent Committee meets every other month to plan events and discuss the needs of students.

If you are interested in either of these groups please click HERE to sign up. If you would like detailed information regarding time commitment, etc. please contact Heather Jones at hjones@jessup.edu or (916) 577-1803. Thank you in advance for your consideration!
