Positioning

Success, I have learned at times the hard way, comes down to consistency.  Consistency in showing up, performing, and with routines. 

Consistency is important because your habits either work for you or against you, there is no in between.  Each day your positioning is changing negatively or positively even if by only a small amount.  This thought both nags me and inspires me to take small steps everyday to position myself and my team to win.

Here are things we can all do to improve our positioning.

Take care of yourself

First and foremost we have to take care of ourselves both mentally and physically, everyday.  Personally, getting in 30 minutes of exercise 3-5 days/week is a necessity.  It gives me confidence and energy that is noticeably absent when I am off my routine. Hit the Peloton or take a 15 minute break to go for a walk but get some physical activity in each day.  You need confidence and energy to seize opportunities.  Nothing prepares you more than physical activity.

Get out of the building

It amazes me how rare it is for leaders make it a priority to get out of the grind on a monthly basis to connect with their team.  A change of scenery and lack of distractions is a game changer.  Too busy with all that's going on?  That's even more reason you need to get out with your team.  Go throw some axes and talk shop or grab coffee with your DON.  Teams that connect outside of the office are better positioned and more confident in each other when times get tough.  

Know your top 10

Our customers are our residents but our stakeholders are their families.  Proactively reach out to your top 10 most influential families weekly to make deposits of goodwill towards your relationships.  An investment of time on the frontend will save you substantial time and headaches on the backend.  Be consistent and be authentic.
