New Bobcat™ 250 with Electronic Fuel Injection Helps Metal Connection, LLC Build the Largest Video Board in the Minor Leagues

Metal Connections using Spectrum 625 Plasma CutterChris Cramer, owner of Metal Connection, LLC in Oshkosh, Wis., is known throughout the Midwest as a premier welder and fabricator. As the Memphis Redbirds began to prepare for opening day 2012, Cramer performed much of the welding and fabrication that built what is now the largest video board in all of minor league baseball.

During the six weeks of demolition and construction, Cramer put the new Bobcat 250 EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection) to work on the project. The Bobcat EFI reduced fuel use to the point where Cramer was able to get two full days of runtime out of one tank of gas, saving money and eliminating unnecessary trips to fill up gas cans. The new machine also reduces sound output by approximately 33 percent, which was helpful on this site as an apartment building sat within 20 feet of where the video scoreboard was being erected. Strong generator power — 12,000 watts peak and 10,500 watts continuous — also allowed Cramer to run critical tools such as grinders and plasma cutters during the project. PLUS: Cramer puts the new Spectrum® 625 X-TREME™ with XT Torch to the test.

Specialty Fabricator Chris Razor Dials In Quality and Productivity with Advanced AC/DC TIG Controls and the Dynasty® 350

Chris Razor of Hi-Tech Welding in Detroit on his DynastyLocated just outside of Detroit, Chris Razor of Hi-Tech Welding is a trusted resource for major automotive manufacturers and race teams, as well as the iron and steel industries. For 36 years, Razor has had a front row seat to the evolution of TIG welding equipment from large transformer-based machines to equipment roughly the size of a carry-on suitcase. With that technology has come new ways to control heat input, tailor arc performance, and improve overall weld quality and productivity. It has also helped streamline equipment layout and cell design. In this article we look at Razor’s welding practices and how modern inverter technology has helped him serve some of the finest manufacturers and fabricators in Detroit and around the world.

Top Factors and Considerations for MIG (GMAW) Gun Selection

Factors to consider in selecting a MIG gun or torchSelecting a MIG gun (or torch) for your welding application should be done with just as much attention to detail as the welding power source itself. The gun — while an extension of the system — is just as critical to the quality of the weld and the productivity of your operators. There are also important considerations when selecting a MIG gun that may help you lower your operating costs. In this article, we'll take a look at common types of MIG guns and things you should consider when selecting the gun that's right for you.

Offline Programming and Simulation Speeds Up Programming, Reduces Robot Downtime

Sample screen for offline programmingAs manufacturers look for new ways to compete globally, it’s important to look holistically at the manufacturing process. There is one great truth: parts — and money — are not made when equipment sits idle. While robotic welding cells have helped manufacturers speed up productivity, even the best robots sit idle during the programming process, which can take weeks. In this article we’ll examine offline programming and simulation technology, such as the Desktop Programming and Simulation (DTPS) software from Miller, and how it allows fabricators and manufacturers of all sizes to program parts faster and more consistently, become more competitive through improved and accurate costing, and provide operational flexibility.
