Hello

Welcome to this week’s edition of Talking Tourism newsletter.

National radio presenter takes on Coral Coast highway

Tourism WA has launched the second phase of a domestic Road Trips campaign, in partnership with national broadcaster Macquarie Radio Network. Last November, Tourism WA supported radio presenter Steve Price’s trip to the South West, where he broadcast live shows from Albany and Bunbury. This second part of the campaign sees Steve taking on the “Coral Coast highway” from Perth to Ningaloo Reef and back. Key stops on his road trip include Exmouth, Coral Bay, Cape Range National Park, Monkey Mia and Geraldton. His shows will include heaps of information about travelling in WA, including interviews with local operators. His national program, Nights with Steve Price, is broadcast on 3AW (Sydney), 2GB (Melbourne) and 4BC (Brisbane), and 47 regional locations in NSW, VIC and QLD. The campaign also includes commercial radio ads, press and social activity that will drive conversion via travel packages with Helloworld. One of Steve’s highlights of the trip was swimming with whale sharks at Ningaloo Reef. Check out the video here.

Aboriginal tours and experiences launched at Kings Park

New Aboriginal tours and cultural experiences were launched in Kings Park and Botanic Garden (Kaarta Koomba) this month. Nyungar Tours and Go Cultural Aboriginal Tours and Experiences, both owned and operated by local Aboriginal people, began earlier this month and are already proving popular. These new initiatives to promote Aboriginal culture and knowledge are in response to a growing interest in Aboriginal culture from locals and tourists. Environment Minister Stephen Dawson said: “With a long Aboriginal history and deep spiritual connections for the Wadjuk Nyoongar people, Kaarta Koomba is an ideal location in which to immerse visitors in this ancient element of Western Australian culture.” Aspects of Kings Park gallery will also begin stocking works by Aboriginal artists.
