Tourism WA to have enhanced presence in Eastern states

Tourism WA will soon establish a presence on the Eastern seaboard, for the first time since December 2010. Tourism WA is currently finalising the scope for the new function, which will support existing work with trade partners, including airlines, wholesalers and travel websites; travel trade training; and public relations services. The new operation will be in addition to Tourism WA’s current marketing and PR activities, and will report into the head office in Perth. For more information, read the Tourism Minister’s media statement.

Quokka

Last chance to name that plane

Tourism WA is urging everyone to get behind ‘Qantas Quokka’ as the name for one of the new Qantas Dreamliners. Qantas is calling on Australians to suggest names that reflect the true Spirit of Australia for the airline’s fleet of eight Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. With tickets for the new, non-stop London-Perth route going on sale recently (and selling like hotcakes), Tourism WA believes the world’s happiest animal, the quokka, is the ideal choice to represent the new route. It would seem many others agree including Brian Rettinger of South West Tour Services who made the popular suggestion on the South Western Times Facebook page last week. Name suggestions close today, Friday, May 26. Read more on the Tourism WA corporate website or head to the Qantas website to nominate Qantas Quokka.

Construction has started on the first Camping with Custodians campground in the Pilbara, at Peedamulla Station, near Onslow. Camping with Custodians is an initiative developed by Tourism WA, which provides an opportunity for travellers to stay on Aboriginal lands and interact with the locals, knowing that the proceeds of their stay will remain in the community. Peedamulla Station is a 220,000ha Aboriginal-owned pastoral station which is home to a collection of heritage-listed buildings and structures – one of which is being restored for use as the campground reception.
