Spring/Summer 2015

June , 2015

Greetings EMU Parents

Please enjoy this final ParentLink e-communication before the fiscal year ends on June 30.

I hope you are enjoying a different pace of life and, perhaps, seeing more of your EMU son or daughter these days. The EMU campus is still abuzz with special events like the Summer Peacebuilding Institute and Shenandoah Valley Bach Festival. Graduate classes are in session, and we are in the final stages of completing the much-anticipated renovation of the labs in the Suter Science Center!

As the fiscal year comes to a close on June 30 we anticipate hundreds of year-end contributions from loyal alumni, donors and parents as we stretch to reach our University Fund goal of
$1.76 million to support the students and faculty of EMU. If you care to join EMU's family of donors with a gift to help EMU finish the year strong, you can do so online at emu.edu/giving.

Lastly, as we reported earlier this spring, on July 1 we will welcome Jeffrey Shank '94 as our new director of alumni and parent relations and annual giving. I know that Jeff looks forward to meeting you and your student soon, and to hearing your ideas for keeping parents connected and up-to-date on EMU happenings.

Best wishes for a safe and rejuvenating summer!

Social work graduate Mandi Stoll went from commencement exercises to a job in Washington D.C., where she had completed an internship with a L’Arche community as part of EMU’s Washington Community Scholars' Center. Check out other WCSC opportunities!

Homecoming & Family Weekend: Oct 9-11, 2015

Plan now to attend Family Weekend events, held in conjunction with alumni homecoming events Oct. 9-11, 2015. It’s a great time to take your student out to eat locally, go for a mountain hike, tour the renovated science center, and enjoy athletics, music and arts on campus. Details online at emu.edu/homecoming.

President announces retirement

President Swartzendruber announced plans for retirement next summer after 13 years leading EMU. Read about his many accomplishments and watch for updates on the search process in coming weeks.
