Why Performance Excellence?
Performance Excellence: Why are we doing this? Why is this journey so important to our staff, our hospital, and ultimately our patients?
Instead of me giving you the why, it is is best to hear it straight from your fellow employees, many of whom have been on this Performance Excellence journey for quite some time now. You can hear their stories in the video below.
In August, your managers will begin to ask you questions like these in your staff meetings in hopes it gets your mind thinking about your commitment to Performance Excellence in your unit and across this hospital.

Upcoming Epic Update
Our next Epic Update is Sunday, August 14 and includes new features and enhancements. If you use Epic in your role, please review your Update Companion. To make it easier for you to understand the changes, the first page of each Companion includes summaries of the top changes for your role.
You can access your Update Companion easily from Epic by pressing F1 on your keyboard. The Epic Learning Home will open and a banner with a link to your Companion will display. You can also click here to find a list of all Companions. For more information, speak with your manager.
Please review your Update Companion ASAP so you are prepared on August 14.
I CARE in Action's 10th Anniversary
Join the Houston Methodist Office of Community Benefits and HMSL on Tuesday, Aug. 9 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the Brazos Pavilion as we recognize the positive impact you have made in the lives of others through I CARE in Action – Houston Methodist’s employee volunteer program. Register for the program, learn about volunteer opportunities with our 45+ nonprofit partners and receive cookies, cotton candy, giveaways and more!

Back-to-School Shoe Drive
HMSL has partnered with Rainbow Room for the back-to-school needs of children in need in our community. This year, their biggest need is shoes. They are requesting youth sizes that will be given to elementary school-aged children. A cart will be outside Main Starbucks beginning tomorrow, August 9, through the 19th, where you can place your donations.
Only new shoes will be accepted. The cart will be available around the clock to accommodate all shifts. You are free to donate however is easiest for you — whether dropping off individually or as a unit. Should you have any questions, feel free to email Eleanor Holmes by clicking here.
New Administrative Fellow
Please join in welcoming Griffan Guzan as our new administrative fellow. He will be a part of our campus for the next three months. You can read more about him and the work he will be doing by clicking here. We look forward to having Griffin on our campus!
Coming Soon: Smoothie Kiosk
Another delicious food option will soon be available at HMSL. Bleni is a vending machine that serves up fresh smoothies in just 60 seconds. For $5.15 plus tax, they come in tropical, berry, strawberry banana, greens and coffee flavors. Stay tuned for when it will be ready to enjoy!
Farmer's Fridge Available Now
It’s been a week since we launched Farmer’s Fridge in Sweetwater, between Starbucks and Registration. The responses have been overwhelmingly positive, and we’re excited for convenient access to another healthy, delicious meal option on campus. Have you ever had an idea for a new food in the cafeteria? Did you find a new food that you love and want to send kudos to the Food and Nutrition team? Beginning today, you will find a link at the bottom of the newsletter called "Garden Café Feedback" where you can submit those.

You can now receive the newsletter via text! This is an effort to try and reach all employees through their desired mediums. To receive this, you must subscribe to the HR Hub text. All employees who subscribe to the newsletter through August 12 will be entered into a drawing for an HMSL tumbler.

Radiology CT Scan Patient: "Everyone was caring and treated me with respect. I especially appreciate everything Kevin, the CT tech, did to make me feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible. He was great!"
Main 5 West Patient: "This is an excellent facility. Doctors and nurses really care for the patients. This is our number one choice when it comes to hospital care. Dr. Razi Ahmed and his team are excellent."
Main ED Patient: "My experience was awesome. The doctor and nurse took excellent care of me. I would drive an hour and a half to get the treatment that Houston Methodist provides. Love you guys."
