Gratitude A few weeks ago, we talked about the four quadrants you can use to categorize your goals and tasks for the week. As leaders, we must be intentional about how much time we're spending in each quadrant, making a concerted effort to spend time planning in quadrant II. For more details, you can check out the article here. Creating a culture of gratitude is a quadrant II activity. It's super important but not necessarily urgent, frequently overshadowed by the issues of the day. Because of the business of our days, we need an easy way to weave gratitude into our workday consistently. Here is an easy method to begin enhancing a culture of appreciation in less than five minutes per day. Go to Amazon now and order a few boxes of thank you cards. Add a standing agenda item to your morning stand-up meeting titled "Gratitude." Set the expectation with your leadership team to come prepared each day to share examples of employees going above and beyond the call of duty. During the meeting, have department leaders write out personalized thank you cards for the identified employees. Have HR pull up the workforce management system and write each employee's home address on the envelopes. Drop them in the mail and watch the magic happen. This process will take less than five minutes each day. Stacking it with the routine of your stand-up meeting will keep it a consistent daily practice. Your team will have personally thanked 130-390 employees in six months by sending out 1-3 cards each weekday. For most of us, that's enough to thank each employee multiple times each year tangibly. Like all quadrant II activities, it will set you up for future success and help build a culture of gratitude.
